What you are actually buying
A thin-coat silicone render is at minimum three things: a base coat, an alkali-resistant reinforcing mesh embedded into it while it is still wet, and a coloured silicone topcoat, usually 1.5mm grain. On insulation the base coat goes on at a nominal four to six millimetres, working out around eight to eleven kilos per square metre.
K Rend's own instructions call for twenty-four hours of curing before anything goes on top of that base coat. Ignoring that is one of the two ways cheap thin-coat jobs go wrong.
The mesh is the whole trick — and the corners are where it is skipped
The mesh is what stops shrinkage and movement cracks telegraphing through to the finish. It has to be bedded into wet base coat rather than laid over the top of it, with sheets overlapped by at least 100mm.
Then the part that gets missed: a diagonal patch of mesh at the corner of every window and door opening. Openings are exactly where stress concentrates and exactly where thin-coat render cracks. If a quote does not mention mesh, ask what the base coat build-up is before you sign it.

Silicone or sand and cement?
Silicone thin coat is through-coloured so it never wants painting, it is water-repellent but still breathable, which suits a wall that has to dry outwards, and it is light, which matters over insulation. It is less forgiving to apply and it costs more.
Sand and cement is cheaper, tougher against a stray football, and can be finished float, sponge or dash. It wants painting, and it will want repainting again in time. Both are right on the right house. The wall decides, not the brochure.

- 5Topcoat
Primer, then the silicone topcoat worked wet edge to wet edge across each elevation so there are no joins in it.

K-Rend & Silicone Render: common questions
Is K-Rend the same as silicone render?
K-Rend is a brand. Its thin-coat products are silicone renders. There are other manufacturers making equivalent systems — what matters is that the whole system comes from one manufacturer and is applied to their spec.
Does K-Rend need painting?
No. It is through-coloured, so the colour goes all the way through the topcoat rather than sitting on it. That is most of what you are paying extra for.
Why does thin-coat render crack at the windows?
Almost always because the diagonal mesh patches at the corners of the openings were left out. Stress concentrates at the corner of every opening and the mesh is what distributes it.
Can it go straight onto brick?
It can go onto a suitable prepared background, but on many houses the base coat needs a levelling render first. That is a survey question, not a phone question.
Does silicone render breathe?
It is water-repellent from the outside and vapour-permeable outwards, which is why it suits solid walls. It is not a cure for a wall that is wet from underneath.
What colours can I have?
Manufacturers offer wide standard ranges. Dark colours on a big south elevation take more heat and show more movement, so worth a conversation before you pick one.
How long does it take?
The programme is set by the 24-hour cure between base and topcoat, plus weather. A typical house is one to two weeks including scaffold up and down.
Can it be applied in cold weather?
Not into frost, and not when freezing weather is expected before it cures. Rendering guidance puts the working floor around 2°C with no frost in the construction.

Needed kitchen Artex ceiling plastered. Jetnor was quick to respond and arrange a date & time to quote. Quote was very reasonable and job was carried out to an excellent standard (photos attached). He turned up on time, was very polite and cleaned up after he finished. He used Blue Grit on the Artex first and plastered when dry the next day.
