Plasterer in Heath and Birchgrove
Interwar semis and a lot of property that gets let, because the hospital is here. Two very different jobs on the same streets.
Thirties semis, and the wall under the wallpaper
Most of Heath and Birchgrove went up between the wars: bay-fronted semis, cavity walls, picture rails, and ceilings that were lath and plaster before somebody put artex or a sheet of board over them.
Ninety years of papering, patching and re-papering leaves a wall that feels sound and reads badly the moment a lamp throws light across it. Whether that wants an over-skim or floating out first is a straightedge decision at the wall, not a phone call, and it is the single biggest thing that moves the price on a house like this.

The hospital changes what gets asked for
The University Hospital of Wales sits in the middle of this patch, and a lot of the housing around it is let rather than lived in by its owner. That brings a different job entirely: a few days between tenants, a ceiling that has had a leak through it, a wall a wardrobe went through, and a hard date because somebody moves in on the Saturday.
Those are worth being straight about. A re-skim needs drying time before paint goes near it, and a landlord who is told that at the quote can plan around it. One who is told afterwards has an empty flat and a decorator standing about.

Ceilings, extensions and the back of the house
The commonest calls here are ceilings, making good after a rewire or a new bathroom, and squaring up after a rear extension or a knock-through. The 1930s stock takes extensions well and almost all of them need the new work skimming into the old, which is the join people notice for years afterwards.
Outside, it is usually the gable or the rear that has taken the weather, rather than the whole house.

The ones that come up on this side of the city. Anything else, ring and ask.
The walls look fine but every lamp shows up bumps. Skim or float?
That is the standing question on the interwar semis around Heath and Birchgrove, and it is answered with a straightedge against the wall rather than over the phone. Decades of paper and filler leave a surface that feels sound and reads badly under raking light. A skim follows whatever it is put on; floating out first costs a day or so more per room and gets you flat.
It is a rental and the new tenant moves in on Saturday. Can it be done?
Sometimes, and the honest part is drying time rather than the plastering. Fresh plaster needs to go off and lose its colour before anything goes on it, and a mist coat on plaster that is not ready will peel. Tell him the date when you ring and he will tell you whether it fits, rather than agreeing and leaving you with a decorator standing about.
The bathroom above has leaked through the ceiling. Patch or replace?
It depends what is holding the ceiling up. If it is board and the leak has been found and fixed, a cut-out and make-good is usually enough. If it is lath and plaster that has been wet, the key between the plaster and the laths has often gone over a wider area than the stain, and patching that is money spent twice. He will tap it and tell you which one it is.
We are having a rear extension. Where does the plastering sit?
After the shell is up and watertight, the windows are in and the first fix is done, and before the decorator. The part worth talking about is the join: new work meeting the old house at ceiling and wall level is the line people notice for years, so it is set out and beaded rather than feathered in and hoped for.
Do you cover Birchgrove and Mynachdy too?
Yes, and Gabalfa, Llanishen, Whitchurch, Rhiwbina, Roath and Cathays. It is all a short run across the north of the city.
What customers say
Every review below is printed word for word from the profile it came from. Nothing is trimmed and nothing is cherry-picked.
I would highly recommend Jetnor. He was super quick to respond, and explained what was a very tricky job working around all the existing bathroom and kitchen. The standard of work is fantastic and like a glass finish! Jetnor left the place the as clean and tidy as possible and generally is a great guy! Any job around Cardiff I would highly recommend him! Any future job I would come to him first.
Jetnor's work is fantastic. Punctual polite man. Gave us a great quote. Was able to start quickly. Would definitely use again and recommend. If I could rate him higher I would.
Jetnor responds quickly to requests, gives fair quotes and keeps his commitments, being punctual, hard working and providing quality work. Thoroughly recommend
Quality service. Clean, tidy, polite and very responsive. Lovely hardworking guys, highly recommended.
I cannot rate Jetnor and his team highly enough - they have just finished work on our rendering this afternoon and have done a brilliant job. The work was completed within the agreed timeframe and they have done a brilliant job. All rubbish was taken away after each day and they cleaned up well after themselves. Jetnor was very responsive to my questions and his quote was very competitive compared to others received. I will definitely use Jetnor again and will recommend them to all my friends and family.

Minor skimming job to repair blown plaster
Jetnor was very responsive with information and quality of work was very good. We thought that it may be difficult to get a plastererer for a small job but Jetnor was keen and even came out on a Sunday. A very pleasant man, he was courteous and hard-working. We have now agreed a much larger package of work with Jetnor and look forward to using his services again. Good job!
