Plasterer in Fairwater and Danescourt
Two eras side by side: postwar Fairwater with wet plaster on the walls, and Danescourt where it is board on dabs.
Wet plaster next door to plasterboard
Fairwater is largely postwar: semis and short terraces, plastered out wet on to the brickwork the way everything was until the 1970s. Danescourt is the private estate built later, and by then the industry had moved to boarding and dabs.
They fail differently and they get repaired differently. Wet plaster on masonry goes hollow in patches and sounds it under a knuckle. Board on dabs does not go hollow, it moves, and a skim over a board that moves will crack along the joint no matter how good the finish was.

Which one you have decides the price
On a dot-and-dab wall the usual answer is an over-skim: two to three millimetres of finish, a thinner coat, a quicker turnaround, and the board checked and re-fixed first where it needs it.
On a wall that is out of true, a skim will faithfully follow every bump in it. Floating out first costs a day or so more per room and gets you a wall that is actually flat. Which one you want is a conversation at the quote, with a straightedge against the wall rather than a guess down the phone.

The everyday list on these streets
Ceilings, knock-throughs into the kitchen, reveals squared up after new windows, garages and lofts boarded out, and the odd rear elevation rendered where it has taken years of weather off the fields.
Danescourt also brings the 1970s and 80s detail: timber or tile hung panels, bulkheads, and boxed-in services that were never quite square to begin with.

What he is asked for most in Fairwater
Every one of these is priced after a look at the walls.

How do I know if my walls are dot-and-dab or solid plaster?
Knock them. A dot-and-dab or dry lined wall sounds hollow between the dabs and solid where they are. A wet plastered wall on masonry sounds solid all the way across. It matters because a dry lined wall normally takes an over-skim, while a wall that is out of true wants floating out first, and those are different jobs and different prices.
The skim on our board cracked along a joint. Why?
Almost always movement rather than the plaster. A board that is not fixed tightly enough, or a joint that was not scrim taped before anything went over it, will open up again no matter how good the finish was. The repair is to sort the fixing and the tape first. Skimming over it again just repeats the crack.
Our 1980s house has boxed-in bulkheads that are not square. Can that be fixed?
Usually. Beads set to a line rather than to the existing timber will square up an edge that has never been right, and the difference shows most where a bulkhead meets a ceiling. It adds a bit of time and it is worth it in a room you look at every day.
Who boards out the loft, you or the builder?
It varies by builder, so it is agreed at the quote rather than assumed, and that is the argument worth having early. Where it is his, the slopes, the cheeks, the flat and the window reveals are boarded and skimmed as one lot so the angles line up. Where the builder has already boarded it, he skims what is there and will tell you first if the boarding is not going to give you a straight edge.
Do you cover Danescourt, Pentrebane and St Fagans?
Yes, and Llandaff, Ely, Canton, Radyr and Whitchurch.
What customers say

I would highly recommend Jetnor. He was super quick to respond, and explained what was a very tricky job working around all the existing bathroom and kitchen. The standard of work is fantastic and like a glass finish! Jetnor left the place the as clean and tidy as possible and generally is a great guy! Any job around Cardiff I would highly recommend him! Any future job I would come to him first.
Jetnor's work is fantastic. Punctual polite man. Gave us a great quote. Was able to start quickly. Would definitely use again and recommend. If I could rate him higher I would.
Jetnor responds quickly to requests, gives fair quotes and keeps his commitments, being punctual, hard working and providing quality work. Thoroughly recommend
Quality service. Clean, tidy, polite and very responsive. Lovely hardworking guys, highly recommended.
I cannot rate Jetnor and his team highly enough - they have just finished work on our rendering this afternoon and have done a brilliant job. The work was completed within the agreed timeframe and they have done a brilliant job. All rubbish was taken away after each day and they cleaned up well after themselves. Jetnor was very responsive to my questions and his quote was very competitive compared to others received. I will definitely use Jetnor again and will recommend them to all my friends and family.

Minor skimming job to repair blown plaster
Jetnor was very responsive with information and quality of work was very good. We thought that it may be difficult to get a plastererer for a small job but Jetnor was keen and even came out on a Sunday. A very pleasant man, he was courteous and hard-working. We have now agreed a much larger package of work with Jetnor and look forward to using his services again. Good job!
