Two kinds of house, and they want opposite things
The old cores of Creigiau and Pentyrch are stone: rubble walls, thick, solid, originally lime plastered inside and lime pointed or rendered outside. Around them sit the private estates of the 1970s onwards and a good number of large modern detached houses.

Which means the detail matters more, not less: a bead that throws water clear at the base, reveals sealed, stop ends at every termination, and a system chosen for what the wall is made of rather than for the price per square metre.
Getting out here
It is a proper run from Pentwyn rather than round the corner, so it is honest to say that a single small repair out here may not be worth either party's time. A room, a house, a re-render or several jobs together is different.

Our cottage is stone. Does that change what you would use?
Yes, and it is the most important question on an old house out here. A solid stone wall was built to take water in and let it back out, and lime plaster and lime render let it do that. Dense cement work and modern gypsum seal it in, and the moisture then shows up in the plaster and the skirting. Where the wall is stone, a breathable specification is usually the right call.
The gable takes the weather badly up here. What actually lasts?
Whatever has been detailed properly at its edges. Render almost never fails in the middle of an elevation; it fails where it stops, so the bottom edge, the corners, the window openings and the join at the roofline are where the money should go. On open ground like this that is more true rather than less, because there is nothing upwind to take the force out of the rain before it arrives.
Is it worth you coming out for one room?
Be straight with him about the size on the phone and he will be straight back. Creigiau and Pentyrch are a proper run from Pentwyn rather than round the corner, so a single small repair may not be worth either party's time, while a room, a house or several jobs together is different.
The house is a modern detached. Is that simpler?
Generally yes. Newer housing here is boarded and dabbed, so it is usually an over-skim rather than a float and set, with the board checked and re-fixed where it needs it. The work is squaring up reveals, bulkheads and anything the original builder rushed.

Plaster over Kitchen Artex Ceiling
Needed kitchen Artex ceiling plastered. Jetnor was quick to respond and arrange a date & time to quote. Quote was very reasonable and job was carried out to an excellent standard (photos attached). He turned up on time, was very polite and cleaned up after he finished. He used Blue Grit on the Artex first and plastered when dry the next day. We would highly recommend Jetnor if you need any plastering done. You will not be disappointed. 10 out of 10 from us.
