Plasterer in Splott and Adamsdown
Small solid-wall terraces built for the steelworks, and the damp problems that come with a nine-inch wall and no cavity.
Nine inches of brick and nothing behind it
The terraces through Splott and Adamsdown went up for the East Moors works and they were built plainly: solid brick, no cavity, lime plaster on the inside, and a damp course that is either failing or was never there.
A solid wall gets wet from outside and dries inwards. That is how it is supposed to work. Cover the inside face with something that will not let it dry, which is what a lot of modern plaster and modern paint does, and the moisture stops in the wall instead. That is the cause of most of the blown plaster on these streets, and it is why the plaster is a symptom rather than the problem.

Salt, tide marks, and what re-plastering can and cannot fix
Where plaster has been wet for years it carries salts out of the brickwork with it. Those salts hold moisture from the air on their own, so a wall can read as damp long after the leak has gone. Skimming over it puts the tide mark back within a season.
The honest order is: find where the water is coming from, deal with that, then hack off the contaminated plaster properly and re-back it. Jetnor will say when the water is somebody else's job, a roofer's or a plumber's, rather than plaster over it and take the money.

Chimney breasts, ceilings and small rooms
Removing or boxing in a chimney breast, ceilings taken down and re-boarded, and making good where a wall has come out are the everyday work here. The rooms are small, which cuts both ways: less wall area, but no room to work and nowhere to put furniture.
Rear lanes are usually how materials and waste move, and that is worth mentioning when you ring.

The plaster keeps blowing at skirting level. Will re-plastering fix it?
Not on its own, and anybody who says it will is selling you the same job twice. On these solid-wall terraces the plaster is the symptom. The water is getting in somewhere, usually a failed or bridged damp course, ground levels raised outside, or a wall that has been sealed in with materials that will not let it dry. Deal with that first, then the plaster is worth doing.
What is the tide mark that keeps coming back through the paint?
Salts. Plaster that has been wet for years draws salts out of the brickwork, and those salts pull moisture out of the air on their own, so the wall reads as damp long after the leak has gone. Skimming over it brings it straight back. The contaminated plaster has to come off and the wall be re-backed properly.
We are taking the chimney breast out. What is your part?
Making good once the builder has removed it and supported what is above. That means squaring the wall where the breast was, beading the new angles, and skimming it in so the room does not tell you where the chimney used to be. Worth agreeing the sequence before the builder starts.
The rooms are tiny. Does that make it cheaper or harder?
Both, and they roughly cancel out. There is less wall area than a bigger house, but there is nowhere to stand, nowhere to put the furniture and no room to rule off a long wall in one pass. It is priced on what is actually there after a look rather than on a rate per room.
Do you cover Tremorfa and the Bay end?
Yes, and Adamsdown, Roath, Grangetown, Penylan, Cathays and Rumney.
What customers say

I would highly recommend Jetnor. He was super quick to respond, and explained what was a very tricky job working around all the existing bathroom and kitchen. The standard of work is fantastic and like a glass finish! Jetnor left the place the as clean and tidy as possible and generally is a great guy! Any job around Cardiff I would highly recommend him! Any future job I would come to him first.
Jetnor's work is fantastic. Punctual polite man. Gave us a great quote. Was able to start quickly. Would definitely use again and recommend. If I could rate him higher I would.
Jetnor responds quickly to requests, gives fair quotes and keeps his commitments, being punctual, hard working and providing quality work. Thoroughly recommend
Quality service. Clean, tidy, polite and very responsive. Lovely hardworking guys, highly recommended.
I cannot rate Jetnor and his team highly enough - they have just finished work on our rendering this afternoon and have done a brilliant job. The work was completed within the agreed timeframe and they have done a brilliant job. All rubbish was taken away after each day and they cleaned up well after themselves. Jetnor was very responsive to my questions and his quote was very competitive compared to others received. I will definitely use Jetnor again and will recommend them to all my friends and family.

Minor skimming job to repair blown plaster
Jetnor was very responsive with information and quality of work was very good. We thought that it may be difficult to get a plastererer for a small job but Jetnor was keen and even came out on a Sunday. A very pleasant man, he was courteous and hard-working. We have now agreed a much larger package of work with Jetnor and look forward to using his services again. Good job!
