Old dash hacked off back to sound brick, the wall made good, then re-rendered in your choice of finish.
Why it comes off rather than gets covered
You can render over pebbledash if it is genuinely well bonded, and sometimes that is the right economic answer. But dash on a 1930s house has usually been there seventy years, is hollow in places and is holding water in others, and covering it means the new render is only as good as the failing layer underneath it.
Taking it off is dirty, loud and takes a day or two per elevation. What you get is a wall you can actually see, so anything wrong with it gets fixed before it disappears again for another fifty years.
What you find behind it
Usually sound brick and a lot of dust. Sometimes perished or spalled brick that needs cutting out and replacing, old cracks that were dashed over rather than repaired, redundant fixings, or a lintel that has been quietly rusting.
This is the point in the job where the price can move, and Jetnor would rather tell you that at the quote than after the scaffold is up. The quote states what is allowed for and what would be extra, so nothing arrives as a surprise.

Then the fun part
Once the wall is sound you are choosing a finish rather than fixing a problem: traditional sand and cement in a float or sponge finish, painted in whatever colour you like, or a through-coloured silicone thin coat that never needs painting.
For most houses the visual jump is enormous. A dashed 1930s semi and the same house rendered smooth in an off-white are not recognisably the same building.

Pebbledash Removal: common questions
Can pebbledash just be rendered over?
Only if it is genuinely sound and well bonded everywhere, and you accept the extra thickness. On most older houses taking it off gives a much better result.
How messy is removal?
Very, for a day or two per elevation. It is sheeted below, waste is cleared as it comes off, and everything gets swept before he leaves each day.
Will it damage the brickwork?
Sound brick survives it fine. Already-perished brick will come away with the dash, which is a repair the wall needed anyway.
Do I need planning permission?
In Wales, normally not for a house, if the new finish is of similar appearance. Conservation areas and listed buildings are the exceptions, and Cardiff has 27 conservation areas.
How long does the whole job take?
For a typical semi, allow two to three weeks including scaffold, stripping, repairs and the new render — weather permitting.
Is it worth doing?
It is the biggest single change you can make to the appearance of a 1930s house, and it lets you deal with defects that have been hidden for decades. It is not cheap.
Can you do just the front?
Yes, and plenty of people do. Bear in mind the return corners need a sensible stopping point so it does not look like it ran out of money.
What happens to the waste?
Skipped. It is a line in the quote so you know what it is costing.

Needed kitchen Artex ceiling plastered. Jetnor was quick to respond and arrange a date & time to quote. Quote was very reasonable and job was carried out to an excellent standard (photos attached). He turned up on time, was very polite and cleaned up after he finished. He used Blue Grit on the Artex first and plastered when dry the next day.
