New and newish construction
Radyr, Morganstown and the developments around them include a lot of relatively recent housing — timber frame and modern blockwork, dry lined internally, often with thin-coat render systems outside.
Those systems are not sand and cement and they do not behave like it. A silicone thin coat is a base coat with alkali-resistant mesh bedded into it wet and a through-coloured topcoat over the top, and repairs or extensions have to match the existing system rather than whatever is cheapest in the yard.
Extensions, and matching what is already there
The commonest job out here is an extension that needs plastering inside and rendering outside to match a house that was rendered five or ten years ago. Matching means grain size, colour and finish — and accepting that a weathered elevation and a brand-new one will never be identical on day one.
The honest approach is to say that up front and, where possible, take the new work to a natural break rather than trying to feather it into the middle of a wall.
Snagging and the first-winter cracks
New houses move and dry out, and hairline cracking at board joints and around openings in the first year or two is common. Raked out, taped and re-skimmed it stays fixed; filled and painted it comes straight back.

Our house is nearly new and there are cracks. Is that a defect?
Not necessarily. New buildings dry and settle in their first year or two and fine cracking at joints, at the tops of walls and around openings is common. What matters is whether it is hairline shrinkage or something that is still moving. Jetnor will tell you which it looks like, and if it is one for the builder or a warranty claim rather than a plasterer, he will say that instead of filling it.
The extension is finished. Will the new plaster match the rest of the house?
Only if it is treated as one job rather than two. New work and existing walls dry at different rates and take paint differently, so where the two meet in an open-plan room the usual answer is to skim across both and take it through the opening. It is a bigger job than plastering the new part alone, and it is the one that does not show.
Can the new extension be rendered to match what is already there?
Matching an existing render is about the system, the texture and the colour together, and an exact match on weathered work is rarely possible. Getting close, or deliberately picking a clean break at a corner, both work. Which one you want is a conversation before anything is ordered, because through-coloured systems are made to order.
We are having underfloor heating. Do you lay the screed?
Yes. Sand and cement screed over insulation and pipework, laid to level and left to dry properly. Drying time is the part people underestimate and it is governed by the thickness and the conditions, not by when the floor fitter wants to start. Needed kitchen Artex ceiling plastered. Jetnor was quick to respond and arrange a date & time to quote. Quote was very reasonable and job was carried out to an excellent standard (photos attached). He turned up on time, was very polite and cleaned up after he finished. He used Blue Grit on the Artex first and plastered when dry the next day. We would highly recommend Jetnor if you need any plastering done. You will not be disappointed. 10 out of 10 from us.
